Jefferson County was established in 1780 when land from Kentucky County was split into three separate counties. The county is named for Thomas Jefferson and is one of the state's 9 original counties.

The county seat is Louisville and our neighboring counties in Kentucky are Bullitt, Hardin, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer. The county is also bordered by Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties of Indiana.

This site relies on submissions so please feel free to send me any documents, records, photos that you can share. You never know how your contributions can help others!

I am unable to do extensive research for you, but may be able to offer suggestions. Be sure to include details about what you are researching and I will do my best to help.
