Notes - Abraham Lincoln McNair Sr. was born September 8, 1896 in Plymouth, North Carolina to parents Andrew D. McNair (age 30) and Gracy Bullock (age 22). He lived in Plymouth throughout the duration of his life. Abraham served in the US Army during World War I from September – December 1918. On January 14, 1920, he married Martha Jane Walker; he was age 23 and she was age 22. They were parents of at least 9 children, with only 4 of the children living to adulthood. He and Martha purchased their home at 502 Wilson Street in Plymouth for only $400; a home they rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in the 1950s. Abraham died at age 77; he was found dead in his home by his nephew Lawrence Alexander McNair. His funeral was handled by Toodle’s Funeral Home and services were held at New Chapel Baptist Church. Abraham is buried in the Rufus McNair Cemetery on January 16, 1974.
